Chantal Pettigrew

Chantal Pettigrew is an Achievement First parent. Her daughter has attended Amistad Academy Elementary and Middle Schools in New Haven.

action:

Chantal has filmed advocacy videos, attended rallies, written to her elected officials, delivered testimony to the State Board of Education, and become a parent ambassador for public charter schools.

outcome:

Chantal's work has led to greater awareness of excellent charter schools among both parents and legislators in Connecticut. She helped her daughter's schools renew it's charter contract.

Danielle Craig

Danielle Craig is a Bridgeport parent. Her son Devin attends ABCD’s pre-Kindergarten program.

action:

Danielle testified before the Connecticut General Assembly Appropriations Committee advocating for equal funding for public charter school children. She organizes other parent leaders to get involved in advocating for CT charter schools.

outcome:

Danielle's actions have brought to light the unfair and unjust funding formula in Connecticut. Her actions have made it clear to elected officials that parents expect all public school children to be funded fairly.

Sunshine Ortiz

Sunshine Ortiz is an Achievement First parent in Hartford. Her son Joey is a 6th grade scholar at Summit Middle School.

action:

Sunshine has spoken out publicly in support of her sons' and all charter schools, and encouraged legislators to fix unequal funding in Connecticut’s education system.

outcome:

Sunshine's family is now actively involved in protecting and improving their education opportunities. She has inspired many other families to voice their concerns and protect charter schools’ rights.

Joann Dominique

Joann Dominique is a 3rd grade teacher at Achievement First Hartford Elementary School.

action:

Joann started an initiative to enlist educators across her network to take part in advocacy efforts.

outcome:

Now numerous other teachers from Joann’s school and network have volunteered their time to take action on behalf of their students.
