Kerri Ann Thomas is the principal of Achievement First Hartford Elementary Schools. Throughout her time at Achievement First, she has been a driving force behind the Parent Ambassadors program. She sees parents as change agents, ready to take Hartford by storm!
Kerri Ann has brought education reform activists to speak to all new Achievement First families about the importance of advocacy. She also ran an advocacy letter writing competition, giving parents a venue to have their stories told to elected officials.
Kerri Ann believes that all Achievement First parents have a responsibility to advocate for their kids. Her activism has raised awareness to families across Connecticut and has given hundreds of parents the opportunity to have their voices heard.
Rosemary Valdez has two children currently in KIPP schools and one who is a KIPP alumnus. Rosemary has been part of the KIPP community for 11 years and is the School Operations Manager at KIPP Washington Heights Middle Schools.
As an advocacy leader, Rosemary actively recruits parents for advocacy actions such as rallies, meetings with elected officials, and advocacy trips to Albany. She spoke on a parent panel to over one thousand families at the Albany Day of Action in January 2017.
Rosemary cultivates a culture of advocacy at Washington Heights MS. Her story and advice has motivated parents to become advocates and to speak to their elected officials in Albany about the needs of public charter school students in New York City.
Erin Acosta is a Growing Up Green parent and the Community and Family Engagement Coordinator. She leads and supports advocacy at both Growing Up Green schools.
Erin has helped organize Growing Up Green parents to participate in legislative breakfasts, meetings with elected officials in Albany, district office visits, rallies, and school tours.
Erin has been a true leader for her community by sharing her story and elevating the voices of many Growing Up Green parents.
Vanessa Santiago is an Achievement First North Brooklyn Prep parent. She has been an active parent leader for many years.
Vanessa was a participant at the Community Education Summit, attends Ambassador meetings, and has participated in many elected meetings in Albany.
Vanessa has encouraged many parents to join education advocacy campaigns and has brought her community together around this issue.
