The facts, history, proven success, and the journey ahead
Coney Island Reads is a community event that Coney Island Prep (CIP) organizes each year at the Coney Island Public Library. This year’s event took place on April 27th and saw a great turnout of students and volunteers. Reading buddy volunteers, as they are known, read to, and were read to by, elementary school students from the community. The event’s goal is to promote a love of learning and literature.
In addition to reading time, CI Reads held a book club discussion for Coney Island Prep high schoolers and Assemblywoman Pam Harris on Lord of the Flies.
This event inspired the Assemblywoman to author an op-ed for the Brooklyn Eagle. In her piece, she writes high praise for CIP and the success of their first-ever graduating class with a 100% college-acceptance rate.
