Council Member Rafael Salamanca visits South Bronx Classical Charter School 1

On Friday April 21st, Council Member Salamanca visited South Bronx Classical Charter School 1. He was given a tour of the school by three parents and the network’s founder Lester Long. Parents had an opportunity to tell the Council Member why they chose to send their children to South Bronx Classical (SBC) and the impact it has had on their families.

CM Salamanca was impressed by the many unique programs and approaches the school utilizes — such as Latin class as early as 3rd grade and an in-class debate on the pros and cons of Christopher Columbus.

SBC 1 is currently one of New York City’s top performing charter schools. They opened in 2006 and now serve students from Kindergarten to 8th grades in a building co-located with two other middle schools.
